V&A Showcase of Scottish Design Talent
Sixty designers and makers will descend on V&A Dundee this weekend for an extra special showcase of creativity.
The Summer Design Market will run from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 July (10am–5pm). Local exhibitors include Dundee fashion house Isolated Heroes, Scarlett Erskine Jewellery, Man Pins, Dundee illustrator Cara Rooney and Oh for Print’s Sake.

This weekend’s market coincides with Dundee-based Tea Green Events’ 10th birthday weekend. To mark the decade in business, 20 Tea Green Events will be held across Scotland this year, compared to 13 in 2023.
Founder Joanne MacFadyen, who recently opened her first dedicated studio in the city’s Meadow Mill, said, “This weekend’s summer market at V&A Dundee will be a pivotal moment for us. While our markets are expanding across Scotland, securing V&A Dundee back in 2019 was a game changer for us and there’s nowhere else we’d rather be celebrating our tenth anniversary.
“But most of all, it’s about the designers and makers, giving them a stunning and iconic space to show off their hand-crafted products and innovations, some emerging and some more established, but all looking to meet and mingle with the public and make new connections. Dundee and the surrounding area has been a hotbed of creativity for many years and it’s fantastic to see that steady stream of new designers and fresh talent coming through, looking to join our community and being part of something bigger.”

Christian Moire, Director of Operations, V&A Dundee, said, “The Tea Green Design Markets at V&A Dundee are always hugely popular and we’re proud to have been part of Tea Green’s work in championing independent designers and makers since we opened the museum.
“We’re excited to welcome so many designers and visitors to the next Tea Green Design Market, which always attracts people from all across Scotland to meet emerging and established designers, and to buy unique and beautiful design products.”

One of the designers attending this weekend’s market is Samantha Paton of Isolated Heroes who added, “Joanne is doing an amazing job at getting the creative community together and shaping highly curated events where you know the quality will be good. Because the environment is event-based, people are excited to attend and support local designers, something you don’t always get within a pop-up shop on the high street or a shopping centre.

“We love to chat with our customers and potential customers in person so, by launching new products or road-testing designs, we can gather feedback before they’re made on a larger scale or incorporated into permanent lines. We also get lots of custom orders through the markets – what we have on the day might not be the right colour or cut for that customer, but we can fit and measure them there and then, and send the goods out later. It gives them a taste of what we can do.”
